Veenas Sona Masoori Rice is an aromatic rice that is lightweight and low in starch most often used in dishes such as biryani, sweet pongal, idlis and fried rice. It is a medium-grain rice grown largely in the Indian states of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Karnataka. In Telugu, Sona Masoori rice is called as Bangaru Theegalu (meaning Golden Ivy). It is lightweight and aromatic. It has a good dietary value containing protein and carbohydrates. For best cocking result wash the rice and leave to soak for 20-30 minutes
Lidded Saucepan: In a lidded saucepan, add the rice and just under double its weight in cold water. Bring the rice to a boil cover with a lid, then reduce the heat and simmer for 10 to 12 minutes. Once it has absorbed most of the water take off the heat and leave it to rest, still keep it covered, for 5 more minutes.
Microwave: fill microwave-safe bowl to 1-part rice with 2 parts water. Little salt to taste. Cover bowl loosely with cling film then cook on high for roughly 6-10 minutes, depending on your microwave.
